Welcome to SV-Machrihanish |
September 2nd, 2008 - Machrihanish is now at the Tyee Marina in Tacoma, Washington; she is being listed for sale with Admiralty Yacht Sales; www.ays.com. I am very sorry to be selling her, but it is the right thing to do for now; she wants to go offshore again, and it will be a while before I can.................. August 15th - Time sure flies....... Machrihanish has been back in the water for a couple weeks now. I put several coats of Cetol on some of the brightwork, and have also done some other cleaning and polishing. We'll be finishing up a few miscellaneous projects probably next week and then take her to Tacoma to list her with a broker to be sold. July 23rd - We had Machrihanish hauled out last Thursday so we've been busy working on her in the Swantown boat yard. Nothing major, just wanted to check the bottom paint (still in good shape since it has only been a year) and do some of the bright work. For you non-sailors, this means the pretty shiney teak wood all over the boat. Yikes, lots of work. I thought about just doing some touch up, but I just don't think it would look right. So armed with a heat gun and scraper, we're taking off the old Cetol while she is in the yard and will paint her after she gets back in the water. The weather has been great for this, not too hot, not wet........... I'm glad I didn't do this before we left or I would not have wanted to take her anywhere for fear of damaging the teakwork ! 16th - We have been busy cleaning out all the stuff on Machrihanish (I can't believe how much stuff we had on board....), the boot stripe is several inches out of the water now. Anyway, we have lots of equipment for sale, and soon Machrihanish will be also. We are busy cleaning her inside and out, shining stainless, etc. If you are interested in seeing what we have for sale, go to this page. Or, If you are interested in buying Machrihanish (she's a great boat, just no more long distance cruising for a while); please give Barbara a call. I'm working on a list of all the great features, and equipment she has. 2nd - We arrived at the Swantown Marina in Olympia yesterday morning a little after noon. It is good, but strange to be back here with the boat.

1976 CT Tayana 37 cutter rigged, hull number 46 - bought in June 2006 with the plans for cruising the Pacific in 2007-2009..... wow time flies, it's 2007 already and it's almost time to leave (9/13/2007) .jpg) She is equipped with: VHF radio, Single side band (SSB) radio, High frequency (HF) pactor IIE modem (for email), PUR40 watermaker (makes 1.5 gallons an hour), Yanmar diesel engine, solar panels, 2000 watt inverter, Furuno radar, Fleming windvane, Nexus instruments, Garmin GPSs (48, two 76c, 392 chartplotter). We added an AIS system in October 2007; the SR161 unit from Milltech Marine - DON'T leave home without one, these are a great addition to the electronics. You can see info about ships and where they are going. Where does the name Machrihanish come from? I think this boat was named after the clipper ship Machrihanish of the late 1800's. Research of the Gaelic dictionary revealed that Machrihanish comes from "magher hanysh". Magher meaning fertile field/land and Hanysh appears to be a sur name. Machrihanish is an area in Scotland; a website to read more about the area is here: www.machrihanish.net Machrihanish (The Pans) is a small village situated on the Kintyre Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. Machrihanish boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in the country around the village not to mention the excellent world class championship golf course along the coast. |
